SHAFT SEALING SYSTEM FOR HEAVY DUTY
Shaft Sealing System for Heavy Duty
Generally , Stuffing box to provide a watertight seal for the Heavy Duty propeller shaft.
A stuffing box is consist of house, gland seal and pins. House is made of bronze and pins are made of
chrome material.
It is possible to used gland seal with tallow or teflon. Please, you can see, part no:4 for the typical
stuffing box arrangement .
Water and lub oil for gland seal are required to lubricate, when these two items are enough to
provide sufficient lubrication for the box. In this situation that friction is less and water provide more
cooling capability for shaft bearings. For the this advantage, stuffing box is preferred.
